Rumour: Maruti Suzuki XL6 Will Be Bigger Than Ertiga

by Jagdev Kalsi on Monday, Aug 05 2019

Maruti Suzuki will launch the XL6, an Ertiga-based MPV for Nexa, on 21 August 2019. The carmaker is yet to announce the commencement of bookings of the upcoming MPV, but it has revealed its initial sketches and some teaser images on its official website.

The latest rumour, which appears to be believable, claims the dimensions of the XL6, and as expected, it has turned out to be larger than the MPV it is based on -- Ertiga. Here’s the dimensions comparison between the XL6 and the Ertiga:

    Dimention Comparison

The XL6 was always expected to be the larger can of the two given that its front and rear bumpers have been redesigned and get additional cladding as well. It should be the cladding only that makes the XL6 wider on paper compared to the Ertiga. When it comes to height, the XL6 could be the taller car given that it gets roof rails while the Ertiga doesn’t. As expected, wheelbase of both the cars remains the same.

The Ertiga has a roomy cabin and the XL6 should be as roomy as the car it is based on. However, the XL6 will get captain seats in the middle row, whereas it’s a bench seat in the case of the Ertiga. Talk of other major interior differences, and the most prominent one is the difference in the colour. While the Ertiga gets a beige-black cabin, the XL6 will get an all-black interior environment.

The XL6 is likely to be equipped with more features compared to the Ertiga, and, therefore, it is expected to be priced at a premium as well. It is likely to be launched with a BS6 petrol engine only -- the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that does duty on the Ertiga. The XL6 will be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s Nexa retail chain while the Ertiga is sold from Arena outlets.
